KNUST wellness center holds week long wellness fare

The KNUST Wellness Centre, headed by Professor (Mrs.) Ibok Oduro, in collaboration with the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and Estate Organisation, held a week-long “Fresh Foods Fair” from Monday, 13th to Friday, 17th December, 2021 at the KNUST Commercial Area.

The fair, dubbed “Eat Fresh, Stay Healthy this festive season” was organised to provide fresh and healthy foodstuff for the University Community within the festive season.

The Secretary for the KNUST Wellness Committee, Mr. Rabbi Darko, disclosed that it is important that wellness individuals advocate the need for staff members to prioritise their health and put in more effort to eat and stay healthy. This, he added, would ensure that the University Community always has energetic staff to push the wheels of the affairs of the University to attain success.

There were about nine different food vendors who registered for the fair. Revol Food, selling fresh vegetables and fruits, meat, and spices; Linadepa ventures with Natural Spices and some local beverages such as Sobolo; Akokono House with palm weevil larvae, locally called Akokono and the Department of Horticulture from the College of Agric and Natural Resources all brought their products.

Also, the Crop Research Institute came in with some smoked and grilled fish; the KNUST Animal Science department was around with their products; St. Louis Farms, Pristine Health Juice showcased nutritious natural fruit juice and the Department of Fisheries was also present.

In an interview, some members of the University Community expressed their appreciation for the fair and pushed for more programmes of such nature.

The KNUST Wellness Centre is a state-of-the-art Health, Nutrition and Fitness Consultancy Centre created to promote preventive health over curative health to staff and students in KNUST and the public. The Centre also conducts a thorough medical screening to help people know their health status for clinical advice and treatment. The centre is committed to propagating good eating habits among the staff of the University.

It is located at the Hale and Hearty Centre, near the KNUST Swimming pool.
