Anti-War Protests Across Europe

Tens of thousands of people are expected to gather in cities across Europe to protest against the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, with also small rallies taking place in Russia despite a crackdown by authorities against such demonstrations.

More than 5,000 people were arrested in Russia while taking part in demonstrations against Moscow’s war against sixty-nine Ukrainian cities on Sunday alone according to the OVD-Info monitoring group.

That compares with 1,900 protesters arrested on February 24th, the day of the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Many demonstrators carried flags with the blue and yellow colours of Ukraine while others carried banners with readings like ‘Stop the war’ and ‘Peace and Solidarity for the people in Ukraine’.

As protest intensifies, so as the efforts by the police to disperse them, with dozens suffering beatings from truncheons or being shocked with stun guns after already being held down by officers.
