KNUST Obuasi campus gets new auditorium

The KNUST Obuasi Campus is a new campus, that has so many problems that need immediate tackling to help students live to meet their academic ambitions.

During the start of the school, the pioneers had so many challenges that needed attention. At the start of the semester, there were so many challenges that students on the campus faced and the school’s authorities promised to solve them. One after the other, problems on the campus are being tackled, from WIFI installations across vantage points on campus to shuttle services to students who are far off from campus.

One of the pressing needs of the level 100 students was a place to have smooth lectures. An auditorium where all students in a particular class can have a session at a go. When academic activities started after the UTAG’s strike, there was a massive rush for lecture halls and classrooms for teaching and learning. Students were left stranded on the corridors of the administration block, either waiting for them to be assigned to a classroom or waiting for their class to be rescheduled to a later time or better still, attend the class in sessions, where a part of the students in the class will join the class for the actual time on the timetable and the other half joining the second session at a later time after the first session ends.

Fortunately, there has been progress in tackling the plight of the students during the past few weeks. Students complained about the fact that, during lectures, the people at the back of the class barely hear anything during the whole session, since the lecturer may have his voice not so audible enough to cover the whole room.

In a move to solve the sound problems during lectures, some portable sound systems and mics have been made available for the rooms that are too large to have the lecturer’s voice reach the very last person at the back. Air conditioners have been installed in the classrooms and the faulty ones, are fixed. This took care of the students’ complaints about the heat endured during lectures, especially afternoons.

The level hundreds’ that offer Business Administration were too many that, the OSC 1, which was the biggest hall that hosted the greatest number of students on campus, was not big enough to hold them all at once. This resulted in the splitting of the class into two, where the first session will take place at a different time to the second session, putting stress on the lecturer and organizers for class sessions.

The Coordinating Dean in one of his meetings with the students addressed the students on such issues and assured them of the provision of a larger hall, that could take up a very large number of students at a go. Thus, where there wouldn’t be the need to divide one class into two sessions of lectures.

The Faculty Area 2 hosted two lecture halls: Hanger Hall 1 and 2. A renovation has gone on at the Faculty Area 2, where the biggest Hall on campus as promised by the Coordinating Dean at the start of the semester, has started operation. The level 100 Business Administration students that have the greatest number of students on the campus started using the facility last Monday, March 21, 2022.

The school has a number of problems, but the school’s administration has shown that it cares and therefore, it is solving them one after the other. Hopefully, KNUST Obuasi Campus is going to have a more serene environment for studies soon.
